The sweetest and rarest German wine, made from raisined berries with noble rot.

Trockenbeerenauslese is the sweetest and rarest German wine, made from raisin-like berries, often affected by noble rot. Trockenbeerenauslese, or TBA, is the sweetest and rarest German wine. The name can be translated as "selection of dried berries". It is made from berries that have turned into raisins on the vine and are affected by noble rot. Such berries hold a great deal of sugar.

According to the rules, TBA needs must of about 150–154 degrees Oechsle, which is more sugar than for ice wine. Fermentation therefore takes a long time, and the wine may contain only 6–8% alcohol. Harvest is by hand, with berries picked one by one, so the wines are very expensive.

TBA belongs to the Prädikatswein system, which ranks wines by grape ripeness. BA, a step below, is slightly less sweet, while Eiswein differs because the grapes are frozen. Such wines are made in Germany and Austria. They are drunk in small portions, with dessert or alone, and can be kept for decades.
