📜 Ventoux
An appellation at the foot of Mont Ventoux with fresh red and rosé wines.
Ventoux is an appellation in the south of the Rhône Valley in France, at the foot of Mont Ventoux in Provence. The mountain is high and visible from afar, and its slopes set the climate: wind and altitude make the nights cool. So the wines turn out fresher than in the hot lowland parts of the valley.
Mostly red and rosé wines are made here. Whites are less common. The base of the reds is Grenache, with Syrah and Cinsault added. The wines are bright, fruity and light, with notes of red berries and herbs. The rosés are fresh and dry, and are liked in summer.
The name is protected as a PDO, a protected designation of origin. It is part of the southern Rhône area. The district was once called Côtes du Ventoux, and the word "Côtes" was later dropped.
Ventoux wines are inexpensive and suit the everyday table. They go well with Mediterranean food: vegetables, roast meat and cheese.
