🍇 Cinsaut
A red grape from southern France, a parent of Pinotage, often used in rosé.
Cinsaut is a red grape variety from the south of France. It has long grown in Languedoc, Provence and the Southern Rhône. The vine likes heat and dry climate, so it feels at home in Mediterranean areas.
Cinsaut wines are usually pale, soft and aromatic, with little tannin. It is often made into rosé, for instance in Tavel, Bandol and Provence. It is also added to red blends, including Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Côtes du Rhône.
The variety has an interesting family. Crossing Cinsaut with Pinot Noir gave Pinotage in South Africa in 1925. It is a French variety with a long history and an important grape for rosé. It is also grown in South Africa and other warm regions.
