📜 Chevalier-Montrachet

Appellation ✔ Checked: 10.2026 · sources: 1 Updated:

A Puligny-Montrachet grand cru above Montrachet, one of Burgundy's finest white wines.

Chevalier-Montrachet is a grand cru in the village of Puligny-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune, Burgundy. It is a white wine from Chardonnay. It is considered one of the best white wines of Burgundy, perhaps of the world.

The vineyard lies above the famous Montrachet, on a slope. The soil is thin, stony and dry, with much limestone. The vine struggles and the berries are small. The wine is not as opulent as its neighbour Montrachet but rather fine and strict, with high acidity and a bright mineral taste.

Chevalier-Montrachet, like all grands crus, ranks above premier cru in the classification. The wine is aged in oak barrels and blossoms after several years. Good bottles live for decades. Because the vineyard is small there is little wine, and it is very expensive.

The name "Chevalier" means "knight". The wine is still and dry and is served cool with fish, seafood and poultry.
