Herradura extra añejo tequila made from 100% Weber blue agave: 49 months in American white oak barrels, 40% ABV; since 1995.

Herradura Selección Suprema is the oldest permanent tequila from the Herradura brand, an extra añejo made from 100% Weber blue agave. It matures for 49 months in American white oak barrels. Strength is 40% ABV, according to Difford's Guide. This is the longest ageing among the brand's permanent versions.

According to Difford's Guide, the tequila was released in 1995 in a decanter inside a box, and it is credited with launching the extra añejo category; the producer also calls it the first in the world. The Mexican standard requires at least three years in oak for an extra añejo, so 49 months is a year more than the minimum. The color is golden caramel; on the palate, toasted agave, oak, vanilla, spices and orange zest.

Why this matters to you. Selección Suprema is the top of the permanent range: compare it with Herradura Añejo (25 months) and Herradura Legend (12–14 months). The limited Aniversario, aged 100 months, is a separate release, not a permanent line. The WHO reminds: there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
