🥃 Olmeca Altos Plata
Unaged tequila of the Altos line from Olmeca, made from 100% blue agave from the Jalisco highlands; the line was created in 2009.
Olmeca Altos Plata is an unaged tequila from the Altos line of the Olmeca brand, made from 100% blue agave. According to Pernod Ricard, the Altos line was created in 2009 by two bartenders together with a tequila master. Strength depends on the market: 38% ABV according to Difford's Guide, 40% in the United States, and 43% on the Pernod Ricard page.
The agave is grown in the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco, at about 2,100 metres, and baked in brick ovens. According to Difford's Guide, the spirit is blended from two distillates: one where the agave is crushed in a modern roller mill, and another where it is crushed by a tahona, a stone wheel. It is distilled in copper pot stills and bottled without aging.
Why this matters to you. Unlike Olmeca Blanco, this is not a mixto but a 100% agave tequila. Compare it with Olmeca Altos Reposado to see what the barrel adds. Check the strength on the label of your bottle. WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol.
