🥃 Olmeca Altos Añejo

Spirit line ✔ Checked: 10.2026 · sources: 5 Updated:

The longest-aged tequila of the Olmeca Altos line: 100% agave from Los Altos, aged 18 months in oak casks, 40% ABV; on the market since May 2016.

Olmeca Altos Añejo is the longest-aged tequila of the Olmeca Altos line. It is made from 100% agave from the Los Altos highlands. According to Difford's Guide, it was released in May 2016 and joined Plata and Reposado. Strength is 40% ABV according to both sources.

According to Difford's Guide, the tequila rests for 18 months, that is, one and a half years, in oak casks. Pernod Ricard writes that the Reposado and Añejo expressions of the Altos line are aged in 200-litre bourbon casks. The agave is baked in brick ovens and distilled in copper stills at the Olmeca distillery in Arandas.

Why this matters to you. The añejo class means at least one year in the barrel, so the oak shows more in the taste than in Olmeca Altos Reposado. If you want the clean taste of agave, compare it with Olmeca Altos Plata. Añejo tequilas are less often used in cocktails and are more often sipped neat. WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol.
