Panzani is a French brand of dry pasta and sauces. According to the company, it was created in 1950 by Giovanni Panzani, who later became Jean, born in France to Italian parents. He produced and sold his first fresh pasta in 1941, opened a first dry pasta factory in Parthenay (Deux-Sèvres) in 1946, and the company took the name Panzani in 1950, with transparent cellophane packaging. The head office moved to Lyon in 1967 and has been in the Part-Dieu business district since August 2023. Panzani joined the Danone group in 1971 and Ebro Foods in 2005; the company says it has been an independent French company again since 2022.
Panzani pasta is made in France in two factories, in Nanterre and Marseille. Three of the group's semolina mills (Gennevilliers, Marseille Saint-Just and Marseille Littoral) process French durum wheat. The company says its pasta is made with 100% French durum wheat, for products carrying the "100% French wheat" logo, grown on about 50,000 hectares located 50 to 400 km from the mills.
The pasta range has nine lines: Courtes classiques, Longues classiques, Les Créatives (nine original shapes), Les 3 Minutes (thinner pasta that cooks faster, launched in 1996), Complètement bon! (wholewheat pasta), Les Protéinées, Fermes & Généreuses, Pâtes à potage et salade (mini pasta) and Pâtes au four (lasagne and cannelloni). Panzani Express, pasta dishes ready in 2 minutes in the microwave, is a separate line.
