🍇 Dimiat
An old white grape of Bulgaria that makes simple dry wines.
Dimiat is an old white grape from Bulgaria. It gives simple dry wines in a light style. The grape grows mainly in the south and east of the country.
Wines from Dimiat are light, with soft acidity and a neutral aroma. They are drunk young and chilled. Part of the harvest goes into brandy, because the berries are large and give a lot of juice. Dimiat is also eaten fresh as a table grape.
DNA typing shows it is a cross of Gouais Blanc with an unidentified variety. Misket Varnenski was bred in Bulgaria from Dimiat and Riesling.
Dimiat is one of the ancient Bulgarian grapes and is known mostly inside the country. It shows that Bulgaria has its own wine traditions, different from French and Italian ones.
