Appellation ✔ Checked: 10.2026 · sources: 1

A grand cru in Gevrey-Chambertin with red wines from Pinot Noir.

Mazis-Chambertin is a red grand cru in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin in the Côte de Nuits, Burgundy. It neighbours Chambertin itself. The wine is made only from Pinot Noir.

The plot is small, about nine hectares, and lies on the slope above the village. The word "Mazis" is linked to an old word meaning a hamlet or farmstead. The soil is limestone with clay, and the wine is powerful.

Mazis-Chambertin is called one of the most full-bodied and structured in Gevrey. It has the aroma of dark berries, cherry, spice and earth, firm tannin and a long finish. Young, the wine can be austere; it opens up best after ten years or more. Good wines keep for decades.

It is a grand cru, the highest level of the Burgundy classification. Next to it stand the village's other grands crus: Chambertin and Latricières-Chambertin. The wine is still and is drunk with meat, game and aged cheeses.
