🍷 Medium Sherry
A medium-sweet sherry, most often based on amontillado.
Medium Sherry is a semi-sweet Sherry from the Jerez area in southern Andalusia, Spain. It holds 5 to 115 grams of sugar per litre, so the range is wide, from light sweetness to clearly sweet.
Sherry is a fortified wine: grape spirit is added to white wine from the Palomino grape, and the wine is then aged in casks by the solera system. Medium is most often made on a base of Amontillado, an aged Sherry with a nutty taste. Sweetness is added, usually with grape must or sweet wine, giving a soft, round drink.
The colour of Medium runs from amber to brown, and the aroma recalls nuts, dried fruit and caramel. The strength is higher than ordinary wine, usually around 15–22 percent.
Medium belongs to the general idea of Sherry and is close to Amontillado. It is one of the styles of Spanish wine, served cool in small portions, including as a drink after a meal.
