🍷 VOS and VORS Sherry

Type of wine ✔ Checked: 10.2026 · sources: 2 Updated:

Sherry age labels: VOS from 20 years, VORS from 30 years.

VOS and VORS Sherry is aged sherry whose certified average age is at least 20 years (VOS) or 30 years (VORS). VOS and VORS are age marks on sherry bottles. VOS stands for Vinum Optimum Signatum, "selected wine with a seal". It marks sherries over 20 years old. VORS (Vinum Optimum Rare Signatum) marks sherries over 30 years old.

The age is checked by specialists of the Sherry Regulatory Council. It takes samples from the barrels and confirms that the average age of the wine in the bottle is at least 20 or 30 years. This is because sherry is aged in the solera system, where wines of different years are blended and the exact age of each drop cannot be determined. So the average age is given.

Such marks appear on aged kinds of sherry: Amontillado, Oloroso, Palo Cortado and sweet Pedro Ximénez. Fino and Manzanilla do not have them, since they are drunk young.

Aged sherry is dark and concentrated, with notes of nuts, leather, dried fruit and spice. It is drunk in small servings, often after a meal.
