🥃 Sauza Conmemorativo Añejo
Aged Sauza tequila of the añejo class, released in 1963 for the 90th anniversary of the La Perseverancia distillery; ex-bourbon barrels; 40 % ABV; sources differ on its composition.
Sauza Conmemorativo Añejo is an aged tequila of the Sauza brand. According to the producer, it was released in 1963 in honour of the 90th anniversary of the La Perseverancia distillery, where the history of Casa Sauza began. Its strength is 40 % ABV. Under the Mexican standard, the añejo class means at least one year in oak barrels.
Sources differ on its composition. The producer's website calls Conmemorativo a tequila made from 100 % blue agave, while Difford's Guide describes it as a mixto, made with diffusers and aged for up to four years in ex-bourbon barrels. Tequila.net gives 18 months in oak ex-bourbon barrels. As far as the available data shows, the recipe has changed over the years.
Why this matters to you. This is the oldest class of the brand: Sauza Silver is unaged, and Sauza Gold has no aging class on its label. For comparison, Conmemorativo can be set against Don Julio Añejo or Patrón Añejo, tequilas of the añejo class made from 100 % agave. Before buying, check the label for the words “100 % de agave”. The WHO reminds: there is no safe dose of alcohol.
