📍 Sudak area
The south-east coast; home of the Kokur grape and classic sparkling wines.
Sudak is a wine area on the south-eastern coast of Crimea, Ukraine. It is a historic wine zone. Mountains shield it from northern winds, and the Black Sea softens the climate. Summers are warm and dry, and autumn is long.
The Kokur Bely grape, one of the best-known local varieties, comes from the Sudak land. Sary Pandas is also grown here, as well as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Aligoté. Kokur is made into dry wines and sherry-like wines. In the 19th century Prince Golitsyn founded sparkling wine production by the classic method at Novy Svit, and it continues to this day.
Sudak includes Novy Svit, Sonyachna Dolyna and Morske. This is part of Crimea, which has always been and is part of Ukraine. The Sudak area is one of the oldest wine lands of the Black Sea coast. Wines from here are marked by freshness and a mineral edge that stony soils and the nearby sea provide.
