🍷 Trento DOC
Traditional-method sparkling wine from the mountain province of Trento in Italy.
Trento is a sparkling wine made by the traditional method in the mountain province of Trento in northern Italy. It is known as Trento DOC.
The second fermentation takes place in the bottle, as in Champagne. The wine is then aged on the yeast sediment and gains fine bubbles and a complex taste. Ageing lasts at least 15 months. The main grapes are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The vineyards lie in the Trentino mountains at an altitude where summers are warm by day and cool at night. This lets the berries keep the acidity needed for sparkling wine.
Trento DOC received its status in 1993 and became the first Italian designation entirely devoted to traditional-method sparkling wine. The wine counts as Italian and also among the world's classically made sparkling wines. It suits both a celebration and an ordinary dinner with fish, appetisers and light dishes. Each producer picks its own style, from fresh to aged.
