Hills in northern Dobrogea.

Sarica Niculițel is a wine zone in north-eastern Romania, in Dobruja, in Tulcea County, not far from the Danube and its delta. It belongs to the larger Dobruja Hills region, which stretches along the Black Sea. It is the driest and windiest part of the country: summers are hot, rainfall is low, and sea winds soften the heat.

The name comes from two villages, Sarica and Niculițel. The hills are low, with limestone and loess soils. Grapes grow on slopes with good sun exposure, and wines are ripe with soft acidity.

The main grapes are Aligoté and Fetească Albă among whites; among reds Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and others are grown. Wines here are red, white and rosé, mostly made in a modern way. The zone has a protected designation of origin. Next to the vineyards lie the Măcin Mountains National Park and the Danube Delta, one of the biggest bird-rich wetland areas in Europe.

For comparison with its neighbours: to the south lies Murfatlar, the best-known wine zone of Dobruja, to the west the Danube valley, and to the north the Moldavian Hills.
