🍷 Spritzer
White or red wine mixed with sparkling water.
A spritzer is a drink of wine and sparkling water. White wine is used, sometimes red, with soda water added. Proportions vary, most often one to one. Ice and a slice of lemon are often added.
The drink comes from Central Europe. In Austria it is called "Gespritzter" or "Spritzer", in Germany "Schorle", in Hungary "fröccs". It is popular in Slovakia. Spain has its own version, tinto de verano, "summer red", in which red wine is mixed with lemonade.
A spritzer refreshes well in the heat. It is weaker than ordinary wine, so it is handy for quenching thirst outdoors. Light, fresh wines suit it, for example whites with high acidity.
A spritzer is one of the kinds of wine drinks. A wine cooler is similar in spirit. Like any alcohol, a spritzer should be enjoyed in moderation: it is weaker but still contains alcohol.
