🍷 Cream Sherry
Sweet Sherry: Oloroso blended with sweet wine.
Cream sherry is a sweet sherry. It comes from Andalusia, in the Jerez area of southern Spain. The base is oloroso, an aged wine with a rich flavour. A sweet wine, most often made from Pedro Ximénez or Moscatel grapes, is blended into it.
By the rules, this sherry must have at least 115 grams of sugar per litre. That makes it much sweeter than dry oloroso. The colour is usually dark, from mahogany to amber, and the taste has notes of raisins, nuts and caramel.
Cream sherry is one of the styles of Spanish wine. Close to it is pale cream: also sweet, but lighter, made from a more delicate base wine. Cream sherry is usually served cool, as a dessert wine or with desserts.
Like all fortified wines, it contains noticeably more alcohol than ordinary table wine, so it is sipped in small servings.
