🏭 Lubella
Polish brand from Lublin that grew out of an 1881 steam mill; it has made pasta since 1963 and has been part of the Maspex Group since 2003.
Lubella is a Polish brand from Lublin whose story begins with a mill. According to the company, the brothers Edward and Henryk Krausse bought a mill in Lublin and in 1881 built a modern steam mill on its site, a great innovation at the time. The mill burned down in 1908 and was rebuilt. In 1948 it was nationalised and became Polskie Zakłady Zbożowe Lublin, and in 1963 new pasta production started there on machines from the Italian firm Pavan of Galliera Veneta near Padua: three lines made 20 tonnes of pasta a day. In the 1990s the company became a joint-stock company named Lubella, and in 2003 it joined the Maspex Group. Lubella later built a production and warehouse complex on Wrotkowska Street. Besides pasta the company makes cereals, flour, groats and pretzel sticks.
The brand's website groups its pasta into: Makaron Klasyczny, made from wheat (shapes include spaghetti, świderki, kokardki, muszelki, cannelloni and lasagne); Pełne Ziarno, made from wholegrain wheat flour; Express; Mini, small shapes; Dziecięce, children's pasta; Makaron Ryżowy, rice noodles made from rice flour; and Orkisz & Durum, extruded through a bronze die. The egg pasta lines are 2-, 4- and 5-jajeczny and 10-jajeczny with quail eggs.
According to the producer, the 4- and 5-jajeczny lines use eggs from free-range hens, the 2-jajeczny eggs from barn hens, and the 10-jajeczny quail eggs. Egg pasta is recommended for rosół (clear broth) and other soups; the soup shapes include krajanka, krajaneczka, koraliki and gwiazdki.
