Difford's Guide lo descrive come leggero e fruttato: ananas, pesca, pera, vaniglia e agrumi, con nocciola nel finale.
Il nome «Double Oak» indica una maturazione in due fasi: il whisky riposa prima in botti di rovere europeo, poi passa in botti americane, dove completa la maturazione. La base è orzo maltato locale non torbato, acqua di Josie's Well e gli alambicchi di rame della distilleria di Ballindalloch. La legge richiede almeno 3 anni in rovere, ma qui l'età in etichetta è molto superiore.
Perché è importante per lei. Il 12 anni è un riferimento comodo: è più leggero del 18 anni, e Founder's Reserve non riporta un'età. L'età in etichetta si riferisce al whisky più giovane del blend. L'OMS ricorda che non esiste una quantità di alcol sicura per la salute.
