🧀 Arla
Arla is the brand of Arla Foods, a Danish dairy cooperative owned by farmers, whose cheeses include Castello, Apetina, Arla Buko and Arla Cheese Gouda, Cheddar and Emmental.
Arla is the consumer brand of Arla Foods, a dairy cooperative owned by dairy farmers, with its headquarters at Sønderhøj 14 in Viby J, Denmark.
Arla's roots go back to the 1880s, when dairy farmers in Denmark and Sweden banded together. The farmers who supply most of the milk own the company, and profits are shared with the owners in proportion to the milk each supplies. Arla states that from 1 June 2026 DMK Group and Arla Foods have merged.
Cheese is sold under several brands. Arla's brand page lists Apetina, Castello, Arla Buko, Arla Cream Cheese, Arla Cheese (hard and sliced cheeses), Puck and Trestelle. According to Arla, Castello has a history going back to 1893 and has been one of its three major brands since 2006. Apetina is a global everyday cooking and cheese brand sold in more than 30 countries, mainly known for white cheese; its range also includes shredded cheese, paneer, halloumi and cream cheese. Arla Buko dates back to 1932, when processed cheese production began in Copenhagen; Buko cream cheese is made with pure Danish cream.
Under the Arla Cheese name the yellow cheese assortment includes Gouda, Cheddar and Emmental. Arla Cream Cheese is a separate line of cream cheese.
